VLT Has Been Supplying Roller Brake Testers Since The Late 1980's.
Firstly to the Vehicle Inspectorate (later VOSA, now DVSA) for official MOT inspections, then soon also to companies and fleet owners and later to Ministry of Defence sites across the United Kingdom and around the world.
The VLT Roller Brake Testers are designed for intensive use with low maintenance and testing being quick and accurate. Over the last four decades they have proved to be extremely durable and simple to use.
The roller sets come with a weighing system which have 2 nickel plated 10000 kg load cells each. The roller set frames are made of 8 mm thick steel plate, that are robot welded and then galvanised. The side cover plates are engineered to withstand the load of any axle weight the brake tester is designed for. The brakeforce strain gauges are made of stainless steel and are class OIML R60 C3, fully sealed.
The rollers are covered with the well-known VLT grit, which emulates an asphalt road surface. They have a through-shaft, which reduces deformation during a test of a heavy axle. They are perfectly round, because they are made out of precision tube and machined over the full length. The bearing housings for the roller bearings are made of GGG40 grade cast iron.
There are a range of data entry and operating options for the user to choose, from tower to Toughbook and can be configured for a single person to be able to perform the brake test from the cabin of the vehicle. Our Roller Brake Testers have access to the full DVSA database which is regularly updated, and an MTS connection is available.
V L Test Systems recommend the use of a sub frame for installing the roller set into a concrete floor. Similar to the roller sets, all our sub frames are robot welded and then hot dipped galvanised and typically have side guards. The sub frame needed depends on the configuration of the brake tester: Is it installed over an inspection pit, does it have an optional integrated axle lift or a load simulator, etc. and our team will work with you to ensure the correct choice.

- Tower operating console, powder coated steel, with 24″ monitor, foldaway lockable keyboard shelf, professional keyboard and mouse, lockable door. Instead of standard readout unit (light vehicles), or in addition to standard readout unit.
- Wall mounted operating console, with 24″ monitor, professional keyboard and mouse. Adjustable height, rotation and tilt.
- Toughpad’ tablet 10″. This tablet acts as a remote control and readout unit. Operate the brake tester from inside the vehicle’s cabin.
- Tablet holder / charging station.
